Turkey’s foreign policy in Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan has mainly been guided by energy factor in the recent years. Particularly new oil discoveries and increasing trade with the Kurdistan Regional Government led Turkey to abandon its traditional Iraqi policy. This paper focuses on the AKP government’s foreign policy in Iraq, the influence of the Arab Spring on the orientation of this policy, how energy politics became very important in Turkey’s relations with Iraq, and its influence on the
struggle with the PKK.
